Almost every year we used to go to the usual places;
Tuscany, Liguria, Umbria, Venice, Rome, Florence ....

Driving from the UK, we would stop overnight in France.

And the next day we would cross the Alps
and drive as fast we could.

But one day we did something different.

In the foothills of the Apennines,
a short distance from the Riviera as you cross to Liguria,
is the pretty market town of Ovada.

We decided to stop for lunch.

This was the day we that stumbled upon the Alto Monferrato
and started to discover Piemonte . . .
